2020 continues to be a very exciting year for home solar installations and we here at SunEnergy are continuing to invest in our people, systems and processes to ensure that we stay at the forefront of this ever-evolving and ever-growing industry.
We were thrilled to learn that recently South Australia achieved a new global milestone meeting 100% of the state’s energy demand for one hour (Sunday the 11th of October 2020, between 12pm-1pm) specifically from solar panel installations.
With 288,000 homes now equipped with solar panels and another 36,000 forecast over the next 14 months, South Australia has gone from a state that suffered from having not enough power and being reliant on other states to a world leader in solar power production feeding other states with our surplus energy.
Meeting The Demand For Power
Some key facts:
- On Sunday the 11th of October 2020 between 12pm and 1pm the total demand for energy in South Australia was 1,305 Mega Watts (MW).
- 992 MWs of demand was filled by consumer rooftop solar (representing 77% of total demand).
- 313 MWs of demand was filled by large-scale solar farms such as Tailem Bend and Port Augusta (representing 23% of total demand).
- Any surplus energy produced was collected in batteries and transferred to Victoria via the interconnector.
The previous milestone was 900MW which was achieved on Saturday the 13th of September 2020.
With some sources such as the Australian Energy Market Operator (AEMO) suggesting that distributed energy sources such as rooftop solar PV will double or triple in capacity by 2040 we look forward to more good news stories like this one as South Australia solidifies it’s reputation as being a global leader in solar and renewable energy.
New Regulations But The Excitement And Demand Continues To Grow
In September a number of new regulations were introduced to help manage the growing supply of electricity to the grid from rooftop solar.
At first some were concerned by these new regulations, however you can be confident that SunEnergy is working with our key suppliers and partners to ensure that our installed systems meet the necessary technical standards and requirements.
Despite these new regulations, the excitement and demand for rooftop solar continues to grow.
