Record Demand, Delayed Installs: What’s Causing the Sigenergy Hold-Up?

If you're waiting on your Sigenergy SigenStor battery installation, you're not alone — and you're not forgotten. Right now, every Sigenergy battery install across Australia is experiencing delays. The reason? An unprecedented surge in demand following the launch of the federal government’s Cheaper Home Batteries Subsidy, the largest of its kind in the world.

What Happened?

When the subsidy was first announced in April, many in the industry, including distributors and installers, expected customers to hold off until July 1, when the rebate officially went live.

Understandably, they played it safe, delaying large stock orders to avoid holding inventory they couldn’t move. That’s a standard business decision, especially in a high-volume, low-margin industry.

But what followed took everyone by surprise.

As soon as the rebate was confirmed, the battery market didn’t slow down, it exploded. Customer enquiries and orders surged overnight. Distributors rushed to fill demand by drawing down all available stock.

Sigenergy’s entire local stockpile — enough to cover demand for up to two months, was depleted in less than a week.

“The whole process, from us receiving the PO to the distributors receiving stock, currently takes around 8–9 weeks.”

What’s Being Done About It?

This isn’t about poor planning, in fact, Sigenergy had tripled production capacity in advance of the rebate. But no manufacturer or distributor predicted demand would surge so early, before the rebate had even gone live.

Since then, Sigenergy has responded quickly:

  • Hundreds of containers are now allocated to Australia, more than any other battery manufacturer
  • Shipments are already arriving, and more are en route
  • The production and delivery timeline remains consistent, but order volume has surged beyond expectation

“We understand how disappointing it is to experience delays after planning ahead,” says Chantha Lake, Managing Director at SunEnergy.
“But we’ve partnered with Sigenergy because of their quality and long-term reliability, and we’re not going to compromise by rushing installations or switching customers to lower-grade products.”
