Solar FAQS

Frequently Asked Questions

Solar power works by converting energy from the sun into power. There are two forms of energy generated from the sun for our use – electricity and heat.

Solar systems use solar panels made from Photovoltaic (PV) cells. The PV cells feature a semiconducting material that converts sunlight into electrical energy. You can visit our ‘How Solar Works’ page to learn more about how the system works.
As solar is a renewable energy source, the electricity generated through solar can help minimize greenhouse gas emissions that are abundantly responsible for global warming. Moreover, it can also reduce air pollution and save water.
While solar systems don’t work at night, you remain connected to the traditional power grid. During the day, the excess power generated by your solar system is sent back to the grid, and a meter tracks the outflow. When the system does not produce electricity at night, you can use electricity from the grid, and the meter tracks the inflow.

If the solar system’s capacity is ideal for your home, the electricity outflow to the grid cancels out the inflow. So, even if the electricity bill is not zero, it will be significantly lower. If you don’t want to send the excess power to the grid, you also have the option to install a solar battery storage system.

The Federal Government currently offers two incentive schemes for solar panels- STC (Small-Scale Technology Certificate) and FiT (Feed-in Tariff). You can visit our Government Incentives page to learn more about these incentives. Some states also offer additional incentives.
